One of the eye-pleasing features of Materia Magica is the wide use of ANSI (American National Standards Institute) color codes in stunning schemes to bring boring old ASCII text to life. If your client can support it, you're in luck. If not, it is a good idea to get a better/newer client. Use the 'SET COLOR' command within the game to toggle ANSI color ON or OFF.
