Name

contextual-directions — automatically interact with ships, mounts, and furniture

Synopsis

set contextual-directions <'on', 'off', or 'toggle'>

Description

Setting contextual directions on allows the player to automatically perform certain behaviors or interact with objects or furniture by moving in a direction rather than entering the specific command to interact with that facet of the environment.

The following behaviors will occur when the player attempts to move in a direction with this setting turned ON:

  • If the player is asleep, they will wake and stand up.
  • If the player is sitting on the ground or on furniture, or has tripped and
  • fallen, they will stand up.
  • If the player is sitting on a transport object, (broom of Baba Yaga, etc.)
  • the transport object will begin moving in the specified direction.
  • Transport objects must still be halted with a verbal stop command.
  • If the player is mounted, the mount will begin moving in the specified
  • direction. Mounts must still be halted with a verbal stop command.
  • If a player has boarded a ship and does not hold that ship's title in
  • their hand, the player will disembark the ship in the specified direction.
  • Players can only disembark in valid directions based on location and affects
  • on the character. For example: Players without levitation can only exit on
  • to the shore or a dock.
  • While holding the title of the ship you have boarded, entering a direction will
  • move a ship in that direction.
  • Anchored ships will automatically raise their anchor and begin travelling in
  • the selected direction at SLOW speed. Courses are not corrected for objects
  • in the way and ships can be steered into docks or other obstacles.
  • If the ship is traveling in a direction and the same heading is entered, the
  • ship will speed up by one speed increment. (For example, from SLOW to HALF
  • or from FULL to FLANK)
  • If the ship is traveling in a direction and a different heading is entered,
  • the ship will decelerate to SLOW speed, change heading, and proceed in that
  • direction at SLOW speed.
  • If the ship is stopped, entering a direction will face the ship that
  • direction without accelerating.
  • Ships must still be stopped with the SHIP SPEED STOP command or will stop
  • when the ship collides with an obstacle or another ship.
  • Anchors must be lowered manually.
  • Currently, with this setting turned ON, ships can be steered UP and DOWN.
  • The ship will then crash into an obstacle and take damage based on the speed
  • of travel. Any ships sunk because of this damage will not be replaced so sail
  • carefully until this functionality is adjusted.
