Description
The metaphor of the memory palace has been one commonly found useful when instructing pupils in the ways of memory retention. Seating oneself in the center of their mental universe, a student can retrieve vast stores of information, sometimes even performing vast, complex rites after only having read about them once, without the source material before them. The mental model is useful, and may provide long-term benefits to practitioners who reflect upon the knowledge they gain; but actually exerting it is a far more tiring process than simply keeping it available. Once exercised to recite a spell not otherwise available, the palace quickly crumbles and must be re-focused upon to use.
