Name

bind — bind a relic into an item with empty binding slots

Synopsis

bind <relic> <object>

Description

Relics are irreplaceable objects from Alyria's complex and long history that occasionally turn up in curious places. Many bosses and powerful Adventurers have amassed significant hoards of such relics, and can be killed to obtain them, but relics can also occasionally be discovered simply laying on the ground.

Relics are typically imbued with powers associated with their previous owners, and binding the relics into equipment will grant that equipment the appropriate bonuses. Not all equipment can have relics attached to them; only items that have binding slots can have relics inserted into them. Some relics occupy more than 1 inventory slot, and will similarly occupy an equal number of binding slots.

Modern Adventurers are able to bind relics to items on their own, as they have benefited from research into the magical techniques. While tales have historically be told about the Druids of Ancient Alyria, and the edifices they constructed to perform their relic-binding rituals, those stories and their supposed edifices fade into the past.

Relics may confer attributes and spells onto the items into which they are bound, as well as knowledge of skills and skillpower. Relics are not necessarily small trinkets, and their weight is also added to the equipment.

When binding relics into items, it is important to remember that there are a number of prerequisites which must be met before the process can complete:

  • Only relics can be bound. - Relics can only be bound into items with enough open binding slots. - Relics can only be bound to items that have the same owner (if relevant). - Relics can only be bound to items equal or greater than the level of the relic. - Some relics can only be bound to items of a certain type. - Some relics can only be bound to items worn on a certain bodypart. - Some relics can only be bound to exactly one item. - Some relics can only be bound to items made of the same material. - Some relics have a limit of how many can be equipped at one time.

Relics can have lifespans, which, when reached, will cause them to disappear out of the equipment into which they are bound, freeing up the binding slots they occupied.

Relics that possess restrictions, such as removable-in-safe, or stat requirements, will pass those restrictions onto the items into which they are bound, until the relic disappears or is removed.

Relics are not necessarily permanently attached to items, once they are bound. Bound relics can be removed (destroyed) from their slots, freeing up those slots with the 'pick apart' command.

Relics are categorized by those who study such things, and are roughly classified as small, glowing, large, powerful, vibrating, revered and esoteric.

Some relics from earlier days are no longer able to be put into gear. These counterfeit relics can, however, be turned in to receive new relics that are able to be used.
