Ownership lifecycle
- Buy title at a harbor shipwright (
shop list→ purchase deed). Title item: "the title to the ship '…'" — typeship-title, nodrop. - Hold title to act as captain for most commands.
ship locate— reports drydock or sailing coords (e.g. drydocked in The Renn Shipyard).ship launchat a pier with a shipwright present — launches drydocked hull.ship drydock— store at current shipwright when docked.- Sink →
ship recoverat shipwright (expensive; may need new crew/weapons).
Renn Shipyard gotcha
ship locate may report The Renn Shipyard, while ship launch at that pier returns "There is no shipwright here". Workaround unconfirmed — try another mapped shipwright pier.
| Location | Notes |
|---|---|
| The Renn Shipyard | Drydock name in ship locate |

Pirate hideaways and multiple hulls
- Hideaway interiors often require bringing a ship to reach the recruiter.
- A skiff parked outside each hideaway is a common logistics pattern (cheap hull, minimal crew).
- Veterans may hold many ship titles for different roles (cargo, hideaway access, combat).
Officers, crew, and passengers
ship contract— hire crew at ports (help 2211).ship officer <name>— grants command rights (help 2202).- Passengers —
ship boardonly; no title required. - Formations — captains often broadcast
ship boardso the group embarks together.
Courses and marks
From help 2203:
ship mark add <route#> <name>at a water tile (orcoordinateaddfor remote coords — must be on water).- Requires sextant (held or installed upgrade).
ship course set <name|#>— autopilot mark-to-mark; does not avoid obstacles — use lookout; inflatable bumpers sold at shipwrights help.ship mark dump— pasteable list for another captain to import.
Some sailing routes use exact water coordinates — a mark one tile off can run aground.
Pirate marks & quest #3163
Since Jan 2024, pirate content is active again — five marks: sailing, boatswain, captain, swashbuckling, elimination. Historical pirate kills are tracked; you may still need some fresh kills to trigger mark scripts.
Quest #3163 Master of the Seas requires the mark of captain — not merely "200 pirate kills on the quest." Plan mark progression before assuming the quest alone will qualify you.

Oceans (room titles vs planes):
| Name | GMCP plane | Sextant grid | When you see it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oceanus Ingenii | Alyria (surface) | Alyria atlas | Open-ocean room title; SW passage toward whirlpool 1540, 742. |
| Oceanus Decarus | Great Alyrian Underground / Alyrian Underworld | Great Alyrian Underground map | Decara-side underground seas (e.g. #11315869 at 1335,569). |
| Sigil Underground water | Sigil Underground | Sigil Underground map | Not labeled Oceanus in repo logs — use area names (Darksea, Faceblight, Domain of Kelp) and room titles (e.g. Well of Sorrows at 919, 1232). Same ship commands. |
Whirlpool note: Gossip "survived the treacherous passage through a great whirlpool" confirms transit from Ingenii. Typical north-water goals (Darksea, Faceblight) are on the Sigil Underground grid — not Oceanus Decarus on the separate Great Alyrian Underground map (Decara, Vir, Smuggler's Gulch).
