Description
Just as ships do not come with weapons installed, a newly purchased ship will also need to have upgrades added to it to enhance functionality and ease of use. Not all shipwrights will have the same upgrades and some travel may be required to obtain a fully upgraded ship. Upgrades available to install on ships include hull armor, shielding, beacons, sextants, wind deflectors, velocity boosters, fuel tanks, flag mounts, bumpers, elongated holds, and stealthy sails.
Hull armor comes in several different materials including reinforced wood, iron, and admantite. Each material increases the ship's hull by a set amount and may only be installed once, though multiple types of hull armor may be purchased for a single ship.
Vorpal and Spectral shielding create an invisible shield around the vessel and will absorb damage before doing damage to the ship's hull. As with the hull armor, both types of shielding may be installed, but only once per type.
Beacons consume fuel to allow you to scan more area around the ship.
An onboard sextant adds coordinates to the end of your ship prompt.
Wind deflectors reduce the amount of drag on a ship while sailing into the wind.
Velocity boosters increase a ship's speed slightly but the ship will consume fuel more quickly.
A fuel tank increases a ship's fuel capacity by 5000 units of fuel.
Bumpers allow a ship to crash or run aground without damaging the ship once every few minutes.
An elongated hold will allow you to carry more cargo but permanently prevent your ship from travelling faster than FULL speed.
Stealthy sails allow you sail closer to pirates without them opening fire and also mask your presence on WHERE, SURVEY and SHIP LOOKOUT.
Flag mounts are a purely cosmetic item that allow you to fly a variety of flags to show your loyalty to your clan, faction, or to the Lord or Lady of a city.
